Blue Skies, Black souls (Broken Wings)

9/11

A Proud nation.

"Yesterday is a memory, Tomorrow is a dream, Today is reality"

England had spoken to the small boy, sitting upon his lap looking at him with curiosity.

"Make the most of it." The green eyed blonde said to Alfred. "Now, can you tell me what you think of that?"

"Hmm.." the curious boy said aloud. "Well Mr. Britain sir, I think that it means that you can't change the past, tomorrow is full of new adventures waiting to be explored, and today is whatever you make of it, so don't blow it!"

The Englishman smiled and patted the small american on the head. "Very good Alfred, you are learning quickly and thinking clearly. Keep this up and you will be a fine gentlemen one day."

They laughed together and sat in silence, looking out across the clear pond that they had come to love so much. The bright, clean cut grass moving gently against the soft breeze that moved the few clouds in the bright blue sky.

Suddenly, breaking the calm, Alfred spoke out. "Big brother Britain sir?"

Arthur looked down at his younger brother who he cared for so much.

"Yes Alfred?"

"I was thinking, yesterday we spent the day making scones together, and today we spent our time here, so I was wondering.. The nation paused with a slight glimpse of hope in his eye. "Do you think we could spend tomorrow together too?"

Arthur smiled at Alfred and replied. "Of course Alfred, if that's what you want then I'm sure we can make time to spend together tomorrow. If you want, we can even play with the toy solider's I made you."

Alfred smiled at this idea. Brimming with happiness, Alfred replied strongly, "Well I want to make the most of my time, and I want to spend it with you! After all you are the coolest big brother ever!"

Seeing Alfred so happy brought joy to his heart. Arthur hugged the young boy who still sat on his lap and they stared out onto the pond.

"Well, it's a date then."

They both smiled and sat together in peace, looking out across the shallow blue waters.

Arthur thought to himself. He always wanted to see Alfred happy. He was sure that America would go through his share of hardships as a nation, but he was strong, even for his age. America was strong and stood together, maybe too strong for his own good. But if he were to bet on anyone, he was sure that America would pull through just fine in the end.

The soft breeze swept through once again, making it seem like nothing could interrupt this peace.

"Goooooooood Mooooorrrnningggg America!! Hope you slept well, but it's time to wake and get get your day jumping!!" The radio wailed across the room, screaming to only but one inhabitant.

"Today is a beautiful September day, temperatures reaching high 60's, bright blue skies all day long!"

The man inside the radio was making so much noise that it seemed he would kill you if you were to not wake up. He was so loud, that it seemed like he was in the room with you.

"Mmmff.."
Alfred slowly awoke to the earsplitting radio. "Dude had a bit too much caffeine this morning" he said to himself.

The American rose out of bed to turn down the radio, remembering all too well of why it needed to be so loud. Alfred was a heavy sleeper after all so it took a great deal of effort to wake him up. One time he had fallen asleep at a World Conference because he had not gotten enough rest that night due to the decision of watching a scary movie before bed. His simple alarm at the time was not enough to wake him so he had been late and was forced to rush out the the meeting. Once there and everything had started, he remembered France and Britain bickering about who was in higher fashion and why, Russia staring down the Baltic states with Belarus closly behind, and Italy being lectured by his older brother Romano for waving his white flag over and over like an idiot. He had then turned to Greece who was sleeping peacefully with a cat in his arms. He had looked so calm he couldn't help but fall into a very light sleep. He remembered being abruptly awoke by the very angry Germany who always ended up yelling at everyone to shut up and take their seats. Unlucky for Alfred, he had chosen to sit right next to him so he was awoken by the pissed off German.

Alfred walked over the the radio and stretched. "Good Morning to you too bra!" he spoke to the radio. Turning it down to a volume where he could hear himself think again, he remembered the strange dream he had that night. It had actually been a long forgotten memory of Britain and young Alfred sitting by their favorite pond.

"How weird" The patriot spoke to himself. It had been a long time since he had dreamt of his past, especially one that included his former brother.

"That memory must of been before the Revolutionary War."

Unknown to others, Alfred (secretly) still thought of Arthur as his big brother. He just couldn't think of him as anything else. Alfred's attention then snapped back to reality when he heard the following radio announcement.

"A glorious September 9th everyone!" The radio became distant again as he thought to himself.

"September 9th... Aw crap!"

Running out of his bedroom leaving the radio behind, through the living room and to the end of the kitchen, he ran into a chair stumbling and cursing. Putting the chair back in place he looked at the calendar placed upon the kitchen wall.

Skimming the month until he found the date September 9th, 2001, he realized he was worried over nothing. It was Sunday and nothing was to be scheduled on Sunday. Looking at the upcoming week, he came to realization that there was a State Conference on Monday the 10th taking place at 11:30am in Boston Massachusetts, and a World Conference scheduled on Tuesday the 11th taking place in New York City at 8:20am in the Empire State building.

Alfred smiled to himself with a sigh of relief. "Dude, I thought today was the State Conference." He spoke to himself. Looking at the clock it was now 7:36am. "Even if it were to be today I guess I could of made it.."

With the State and World Conference on his mind he started to think about where they would be taking place. Alfred loved his country, his states, but he absolutely loved his big cities. Chicago, LA, and most importantly, New York City. Alfred loved how busy they were and how many different cultures were included in his cities, and his favorite part were the skyscrapers. Alfred had a home in every state, every major city in his country. Undoubtedly his favorite was his Condo in NYC. He lived on the 25th floor which overlooked the Hudson River. At night he was able to see the beautiful skyline he enjoyed so much. You were able to see it at day too but the lights were not on so it wasn't as spectacular but still a great view.

Walking over to his living room, Alfred opened his shades to the world that brought sun into the complex. His blue eyes shimmered behind his glasses in the light as he overlooked the city. He took a moment to admire the skyline. First was the Empire State building, then in the distance was his #1 lady, the Statue of Liberty. Lastly to admire, he reflected upon the North World Trader Center, then the South. Alfred was proud of many of the landmarks but two majors were the World Trade Centers. He remembered when they had been built. Before the Twins, Big brother Empire state was king of the sky. After the towers were built, it was their turn to look over Downtown Manhattan and dominate the skyline. Alfred grinned, It was good to be the hero, he thought to himself.

Interrupting his thoughts, a sudden 'thud' had diverted his attention from view to a broken heap that lay on his balcony.

To be continued.
Hey guys :D.. So I'm not good with starting descriptions but once I get into it It gets better so stay with me!

So this is my first APH Fan fiction, first Fan fiction in general actually! I got this idea because everyday as September nears I start thinking about 9/11 more and more. I had a conversation with a friend of mine about 9/11 and I started to get ideas for a fan fiction. Since this is my first one I would really enjoy to have constructive feedback. (It can be anything just make sure to not troll, flame etc) If I see any harmful comments about 9/11 they will be removed right away.

I was reading many other great APH 9/11 fan fictions to get ideas about things and I noticed that many of them if not all have the events on the day of. I wanted to do something different and have the characters point of view days before and etc.. Tell me if you like it. This is Chapter 1 of many, more to be out very soon!

This chapter is not bad in anyway but I'm planning on having more sensitive material in upcoming chapters (violence and things like that) I won't put a warning on this one but in the future I will.

Chapter 1: You are here
Chapter 2: [link]

(Side Note)
I want to wish all my respects to the people who lost their lives in 9/11 and the families and friends of those victims that were effected. I'm sorry for your loss if any of you are to be reading this. If anyone finds this offensive I will take it down.
R.I.P 9/11/2001

I mean no disrespect with this.
